Other data show much less warming in recent years (a lot depends on which data series and what years you pick. The "pause" idea relies somewhat on cherry picking, but so do some of the charts and numbers supporting strong recent warming).

But even accepting the data you posted, isn't close to enough to say Al Gore was right. He talked about a the polar ice cap being "nearly ice free" by 2014 and later about a 75% chance of the entire polar cap being ice free (in the summer), by now. Other predictions also haven't come true, for example the polar bear populations has increased. Even more extreme then the relatively hard specific predictions is the overall impression he tries to creare.

Al Gore is also just about the last refuge of the sociopaths seeking to deny climate change.

Are you accepting his ideas or not? If you are they are relevant points to attack in any discussion with you of global warming. If your not, then it would seem you'd have to drop - "He is" (as a response to "even if he's right (and he isn't)").

Either way, whether his predictions are true or overblown hype (as the evidence seems to suggest), they aren't enough for "existential threat"
