The ramifications are mind boggling. Instead of income from savings, people will have to forego retirement and do odd jobs to supplement their government handouts. Many people aren't even bothering to save anything outside of mandated company retirement contributions. They can accumulate a mountain of debt if they want as they will die penniless anyway.
