Bigtoe: Sometimes at yearend you will see high volume and no movement in stocks because a lot of arranged trades are being made for tax purposes. For example, someone with a loss in a stock might sell the stock in their own name, and simultaneously buy it at the same price in their retirement plan. That way they can take the loss, but not entirely miss out if the stock pops up after tax loss selling season.
