4/15/16 Contest update
On Wednesday the Golden State Warriors set the record for most wins in an NBA season. 73! Unfortunately, our Biotech Charity Contest warriors’ 2016 season has been far more comparable to that of the LA Lakers. But even Steph Curry has his slumps. So there’s still hope our star stock-pickers will begin scoring lots of 3-pointers and at least finish the year in positive territory.
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -20.95% YTD (vs. down -21.99% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -17.06% YTD (vs. down -18.05% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -19.48% YTD (vs. down -20.61% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed down -1.38% YTD (vs. down -3.13% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader DNAJOE’s portfolio, now up 15.13% YTD, had another excellent week and continues the only portfolio in the green. Propelled to second place by RPRX’s huge gain, MASTER’s portfolio, down -0.57% YTD, just missed green land, with GHMM’s portfolio, down -3.15% YTD, slipping to third place.
At Friday’s close, 57 of the 58 Contest portfolios remained in the red, with 18 still beating the NBI and 26 now beating the SPSIBI. The 224 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -16.82% and a median YTD loss of -19.01%, with 41 of the 224 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week, ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: BOTA renamed Aviragen with symbol change to AVIR on 4/13/16.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe & fun spring weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
