WSJ Readers Are Absolutely Savaging the Op-Ed Trump Kinda, Sorta, Maybe Wrote By: CR Wire | April 15, 2016
Donald J. Trump (maybe) wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal yesterday entitled "Let Me Ask America a Question" and now the internet is blowing up. There are well over two thousand comments on the page with no signs of slowing down.
In the opinion piece Trump took aim at the political "system" that allegedly led to Colorado having an "election without voters." Trump also ripped Ted Cruz for being a part of this "system" despite styling himself a warrior against the establishment.
Readers blasted the premise of the article -- the alleged scandal in Colorado -- as well as the style and writing of the article, claiming it to be too coherent and reasoned to be Trump's work. Below are some of the highlights from the comments page.
Readers first pondered about who the real author could be:
Bruce Lindeke: Donald did not write this. The article contains whole sentences with proper structure and syntax. Well written but certainly not by the Donald.
Alan Gregory: I wonder who actually wrote this for The Donald, because I know he couldn't write this piece
Sara Baker: What a guy. Although I'm sure he didn't write this, one of his dark minions did.
R Scot Clark: A very well written article. I'm just wondering who wrote it...maybe Ivanka??
Stuart Baxter: Unusual for Trump. Someone else must have written this. I and my was only used ten times in this article.
Of course, politicians using ghost writers is nothing new, and most readers understand that.
Dwayne Borgstrand: How awful! A candidate presenting an article or speech under his/her byline that was actually written by a staff member or speech writer. Surely this is the first time that this has occurred in the history of the American republic.
Then readers called out Trump for whining:
MICHAEL COLLINS: Whining Donald is at it again. Is it too much to read the rules before you play the game?
Kevin Roeder: He whines and cries and acts like a spoiled child. He had his @$$ handed to him, PERIOD.
[ He's like a spoiled child because he WAS a spoiled child. The terror of his private school that was dependent on Dad's money. Threw erasers at teachers, sprayed sodas at kids, still brags about giving a music teacher a black eye. His parents raised him to be this way. ]
Joshua Engel: If Trump and his ilk want to whine like children about how life is not fair, they should learn a timeless lesson: life is not fair.
[ Hey kids, if you think you might lose, just don't show up. Then whine about being cheated. IOW Be like Donald. ]
And then readers just went crazy, but the comments were too good not to include:
John Powers: Comments roll in FASTER THAN HILLARY CAN DELETE EMAILS
David Wruck: He could pass gas and his sycophant followers would declare it stunningly brilliant
Michael Wiley: Trump’s Right That The GOP Primary Is Unfair — It Favors Him
Trump usually earns a higher percentage of delegates than votes
Don the Con. When a 70-year-old acts like a 6-year-old stompy feet blame others.
Paul Kaplan: Trump supporters should stop looking for excuses. The greatest threat to the Trump Campaign is Donald Trump.
