My new Jaz drive

It's an Iomega one. Unlike the LaCie Jaz drive I have at work,
which makes a little fan noise, this one makes almost continuous
whirring noises, spins down, spins up and generally is noisy.
It also makes a high-pitched whine if there's no cartridge in it.
I am considering trying to return it (and get a LaCie one).
Nothing wrong with its functionality (how nice to back up my
whole disk at once) but, well, I mentioned the noise already.
Not sure if this is a defect or expected behavior. Maybe I need
a sonic tea-cosy. Any suggestions? Is it a dud?

Eve
(expecting a nice quarter nonetheless)
