If the glacier was a mile long when they died, and half a mile long when they were exposed, it matters. If you have data which shows that the glacier was shorter back then, you should be able to produce it.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe soldiers were digging tunnels and trenches in the pre-existing glacier? I'll bet you think there were dead bodies lying on bare rock, and then glaciers flowed right over them, without grinding them into dust.
