Hi Gary,
Happy Holidays!! Sorry you couldn't have returned from your vacation to an ASND of a new owner and $20 bucks or so per share richer. But at any rate, I hope that you and your family had a wonderful holiday.
While one would expect the number and frequency of co. press releases to diminish around the holidays, ASND has been incredibly silent for some time now. It looks like the last co. release was from 12/16 re: a product award. Nothing since.
I think that ASND management has probably come to the same conclusion that I and many on this thread have come to realize. It doesn't matter what they say, it will be discounted, misconstrued, disbelieved, misinterpreted, or otherwise generally ignored by the analysts and the investment community.
Nothing short of a nice earnings surprise to the upside (.28+) on Jan. 20, or an aquisition is going to move ASND substantially higher. It is incredibly frustrating to see ASND move lower on a day when the techs are rallying, but on the same token, it really pisses me off that the CEO and the CFO have come out and publically stated that they will make the numbers for the quarter and all of next year and the stock continues to get punished. (Especially when so many of its brethren are warning and faring better).
Furthermore, the release of 12/2/97 "Ascend Announces Major Milestone in Deployment of K56flex" was totally brushed aside :

I don't blame ASND mngt. for clamming up, not to mention the fact that every time some stupid f@*^#^% investor makes a bad trade or timing decision the shareholder suits and accusations of mismanagement abound.
If people really think that Ascend is the worst run company in America, then holding shares of such basically says that you are an idiot.
BTW, I continue to hold my shares because I believe that either one of the scenario's (earnings surprise, buyout) is extremely plausible, and that even if none of the above occur ASND has a very bright future as an independent entity.
Happy New Year!
