The topic of this board is AMD. I thought it best to stay on topic.

I do not believe AMD has or will have access to "equivalent" fabs. The fact that the foundries quote a single number, be it 14nm or 16nm does not mean they are equivalent. That number is for marketing. I would be more concerned with sram size, ion, ioff, metal pitch, gate pitch etc. By those metrics they are not equivalent.

AMD needs Zen to be a hit of the fat lady sings. So far we know nothing about Zen other than AMD's slide show. We also know nothing about it's manufacturability, yield and therefore cost. The radical new design on a new process has bit AMD in the ass before and may again. Adding SMT to the mix is added complexity that won't help. I will believe Zen when and if I see it.
