Black Students Charged With Faking ‘Hate Crime’ 8 conservativereview

Three black State University of New York at Albany students will face criminal charges for filing a false claim of a racially motivated attack, CNN reports.

A grand jury on Monday indicted Ariel Agudio, Asha Burwell and Alexis Briggs, all 20, each on a charge of third-degree assault and multiple counts of falsely reporting an incident, the Albany District Attorney's Office said.

Agudio and Burwell also face charges of harassment. Agudio also was charged with two counts of attempted assault.

The three women had claimed that they were assaulted while riding the bus by a group of 10 to 12 white men and women hurling racial slurs and being physically violent. Their claims inspired a #BlackLivesMatter rally on SUNY Albany’s campus back in February.

But the police investigation revealed a different story. Apparently, the young women were not the victims of an attack, but rather the perpetrators.

But university police said an investigation revealed that no one used racial epithets against the women. Instead, they assaulted another passenger and falsely reported the incident.

"What happened on the bus was not a 'hate crime,'" University Police Chief Frank Wiley said in February. "The only person we heard uttering racial epithets was one of the defendants."

But #BlackLivesMatter activists did not wait for the details of the investigation before screaming “hate crime.”

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton also offered her two cents via Twitter, call the incident an act of "racism and violence."
