OTOH, if you were a corporation, you might not be comfortable having YOUR files scattered all around on desktops without a clear and enforced backup and security strategy, so you might prefer to centralize them on servers. BTW, sensitive files can be be encrypted.

Are you comfortable with VISA knowing where you shop? with your bank and broker knowing your account balances? with your long-distance provider knowing who you call? with your local phone company (perhaps) holding your voicemail? with your ISP handling your e-mails? How different is it if another service provider, with contractual and legal obligations of secrecy, stores what you wrote to your aunt Matilda? And you can always opt to maintain your own server, which can even be what you currently call a PC.

White papers re Java and NC's can be found, I believe, at sun.com -- if you're considering buying SUNW, you might also consider spending some time there.
