Matt 16:13...Whom do men say that I the Son of man, am?
:16 An Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
The next few verses Jesus is telling them about how he must suffer and die. At this Peter starts to rebuke him, but listen to the Lords reply:
:23 get thee behind me Satan: thou art an offense unto me:
Now reconsider the response of Caiaphas after he just prophesied that Christ must die.
John 11:53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

This is a very difficult question to answer. This goes back to the question of why did God make man in the first place, knowing full well he was going to fall and need a redeemer.
