For me, this whole nomination process has been interesting and full of surprises.
The conventional wisdom would have said that Trump, after denigrating a big part of the populace, shouldn't have gotten the nomination. But he did. Sanders, being a self described socialist, by conventional wisdom, shouldn't have gotten as far as he did. So for me, trying to figure out what is going to happen, you have to throw out the conventional wisdom. But then what do you use to try to figure things out?
I don't have a clue. And I don't think anyone else does either. And the media elite types don't have a clue either, although they will tell you they do.
If one big thing starts to happen, it will be very difficult for Trump to get elected. If the media gets its act together and can challenge Trump's false statements, then he will look more like the buffoon he really is. I was watching Blitzer interview Trump on TV for a couple of minutes and he asked Trump about his time as the head birther. Trump went on to say that Clinton had actually brought this up first. He was not challenged with this statement. Although Blitzer made a statement afterwards that Clinton never said anything about Obama with regards to the birther movement, the media missed a chance to call out another Trump falsehood.
The media elite need a strategy to deal with Trump and how he lies. If not, he could be very difficult to beat. But I doubt the media will do this. They have gotten in the habit of letting certain types of people get away with saying anything. I would bet if Clinton had said something as stupid, she would have been challenged about it. |
