A writedown based on reserves will not "eat up cash". Cash remains where it was, as the writedown is not a cash item. Not saying the writedown is good for the co or bad just explaining zero impact on cash as immediate impact from writedown.

Say you own a home and also have $50,000 in a credit union account if home prices fall and the value of your house drops by $50,000, how much cash do you still have in your account?

Realize you know this but just explaining for all.<g>
