First, Michael Doran put the dots together in Obama's Secret Iran Strategy, published in Feb 2015 mosaicmagazine.com which he continued and elaborated in Our Man in Moscow, published in Dec 2015 mosaicmagazine.com Then two long interviews of the makers of Obama foreign policy confirmed everything Michael Doran wrote. The first was by Jeff Goldberg, that pillar of the White House echo chamber, of Barack Obama himself: The Obama Doctrine, published in Apr 2016 theatlantic.com with technical details now elaborated in the interview recently given by Ben Rhodes to David Samuels of the New York Times: The Aspiring Novelist Who Became Obama’s Foreign-Policy Guru nytimes.com Both Obama and Rhodes, being well pleased with their results, said more than they should have to admiring sycophants who appealed to their vanity. I don't get the sense that either Goldberg or Samuels intended to write a critical interview. It's just that the admissions they got were devastating -- or should be, to anybody paying attention.
