I forgot to mention that Obama's "toxic idealism" is not a mere product of his narcissism (though his narcissism shores it up beautifully, esp. considering the horrendous results), but is actually standard-issue for the Far Left, which is the milieu Obama came up in. To the Far Left, nationalism is a problem and American nationalism is The Problem, the source of all ills in the world. Racist, imperialist, colonialist, orientalist, you name it, they blame America for it.
So naturally, Obama set about making American power and influence less, and trying to make globalized influence and power greater. It's just what comes naturally to one trained as he is. Like he said once at the UN, no country can tell another what to do, or words to that effect. Ah, but the IPCC should be able to! You can take that to the bank!
Obama believes in the whole multi-cultural transnational package. That's what made him believe he could adopt a concert of nations system with Iran and Russia to control the Mideast. But Obama can't say so out loud because it won't sell inside America. So most of his visible Mideast policy is nothing but a big headfake. "We will absolutely degrade and destroy ISIS [with 15 sorties a day, most of which aren't even allowed to drop their bombs]". Etc. This is why so many smart people have been befuddled into believing that Obama has no strategy at all. |
