jon sunray: The market is largely clueless about the entire satellite communications industry, this includes many of the analysts that supposedly follow it. You can find many articles by analysts with blatantly erroneous statements. All anyone is seeing at this time is that Globalstar is offering a less expensive system. People are looking only at their own values and saying that they would never pay $3,000 for a phone or up to $3.00 per minute (I know that I would not). However, according to studies of knowledgeable analysts, on both sides, there are millions of potential customers to whom cost is not an issue. Their time and the need for their accessability is worth far more than any communications charges. This is the market that Iridium is after. Globalstar is chasing those areas that currently have no communications available at all. The real foolishness of all these discussions about who will win is that they are not even going to compete for the same custmers for the most part.
I have bought stock in both Globalstar and Iridium because I just don't know which one will do the best. That fact will not be known until some real earnings start flowing aroung the year 2000. In the meantime it is still very possible to double or triple your money on either one.
