What about mango?

Mangos, which I adore, particularly the little champagne mangoes, have too much sugar for me. I eat one solo occasionally as a treat. To supplement the papaya in smoothies, I stick mostly to berries, sometimes melon, peach, or apricot. Papaya and strawberries go exceedingly well together. I find that blenders, at least my NutriBullet, reduce the seeds of raspberries and blackberries to an unpleasant grit so I only eat those in unprocessed form.

Unlike you, I don't consciously add protein to a smoothie. I'm a serious carnivore so that would be protein overkill.

I once got into an extended conversation on SI with a fellow who was from wherever in Mexico they grow maridol papayas. I think his family grew them. He hated them. Said they taste like soap. Even doused with lime juice. Maybe he was used to the green version. I eat only the yellow and only when fully ripe. These things are football sized. One papaya yields me enough fruit to fill two 6 cup Pyrex storage containers and costs, IIRC, something just over five bucks. That's a real bargain for fresh fruit. Hard to find, though.

This post is making me hungry...
