I think it is pretty hard for anyone to make the argument that the middle class is "damaged" or "injured" by the existence of Walmart. Over the years -- from the earliest dates of its existence -- I've seen Walmart stores (even the old small ones) opened in small-town Arkansas only to have an entire town grow up around the stores, full of successful small businesses that are busy and creating economic activity. Many businesses with company-owned stores look at Walmart as a leading indicator of development in an area. So, you end up seeing common retail & fast food establishments locating all around them. In that sense Walmart is probably the life blood of a lot of economies.
