re: " P.S. Ponder this tidbit: What is going to change if some television maker out there finds a way to make the internet a acceptable "in box part" of the TV cheaply or even @ no added cost? Possibley by teaming up with one of the big providers to underwrite it such as they have with Satellite TV. "

This is not DELL, but I thought I would share my thoughts on the
PC / TV, concept.
The two devices will combine eventually but here is why I think it will take a long time.

When the public mases turn on their TV, they are going into a relax mode. To sleep if you will. Prime time TV is relaxing, Action movies are fun, Made for TV movies of the week are emotional, sunday golf is sleep. The emotions in the movies and shows happy sad whatever help people to release stress and other mental baggage stored up over the days. the whole family can enjoy the same show if who ever has the remote is not too trigger happy.

When the public mases "Boot up," There is generally a goal at hand. Yes some surf mindlessley, but PC means accounting, databases, Letter or book writing, WORK, Interactive entertainment on and individual basis. (My wife does not like watching me play games) Homework time for Kids, or maybe and educational title with mom or dad, Problem is that the other parent is usually doing laundry or watching TV relaxing knowing that it will soon be their turn.

There is a very different mental approach to the two devices.

This is only my opinion based on my experience.
I would be intrested to hear feedback on this one.
