Pup, I know the chip has been in use i other countries for quite some time which just makes it all the more annoying that it doesn't work here and most of the retailers I go to have taped the opening so that you can't use it. They have the new readers but they might as well not have installed them.

I shopped at Bed Bath and Beyond last week, the only place that doesn't have tape over the slot, and it took 3 tries before it read the chip. We're not talking 15 seconds here but minutes and that was just one transaction. There were 4 people behind me. They might have made it home by dinner time.
