5/20/16 Contest update
As I predicted, the Market Gods granted my birthday wish and biotechs scored a gain for the week. Let’s hope there’s at least one biotech investor with a birthday next week who is also favored by the Market Gods.
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -29.26% YTD (vs. down -31.58% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -21.93% YTD (vs. down -24.98% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -23.01% YTD (vs. down -28.28% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed down -4.75% YTD (vs. down -5.79% YTD a week ago).
DNAJOE’s portfolio, down -3.34% YTD, is back in the Contest lead with MASTER’s portfolio, down -4.57% YTD, dropping to second place. GENE’s portfolio, down -10.02% YTD, moved up to third place.
At Friday’s close, all 58 Contest portfolios remained in the red, with just 13 beating the NBI and 15 beating the SPSIBI. The 224 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -23.35% and a median YTD loss of -24.84%, with a mere 34 of the 224 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week, ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments:
1) Buyout of BITI by Acorda. Only DOUGH’s portfolio held BITI. I used $26.858 as buyout price (23.568 Euro multiplied by 1.1396 US$ exchange rate). Reallocation of proceeds based on 5/20/16 closing prices.
2) DMPI did 1-4 reverse split, with temporary symbol change to DMPID.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a wonderful weekend biotechies.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
