I only went to Catholic mass because my brother is a musician and was playing at one, somewhere in Marin County, California. Actually, I am surprised there were no peacock feathers and such, and everyone kept their clothes on, but perhaps the Catholics in Marin are slightly more conservative than the heathens.
I would love to hear more of your young priest Catholic jokes!!! I am sure everyone here, including the devoutly religious, enjoy good jokes whenever they may be found.
I guess it would surprise everyone to know that there are occasions on which I have gone to just sit in a Catholic church and think. I know they stole all the money from the Incas, and much of the world's wealth since then as well, but there is a feeling of peace there I sometimes enjoy, and as a stained glass artist I appreciate the spirituality of painting with light and respond to it. I think this is a good example of how confusing and multi-layered feelings about belief systems are.
P.S. Please don't look over your shoulder because of anything I have said. I have a lot of problems with religion, but mostly in a political sense, and have tried to really stress continually that whatever beliefs bring comfort and meaning to individuals need to be respected on that level. I just wish everyone would stop fighting about which religion is the true one!!!! |
