With all those stops included out of consideration for local politics, this so called "Hi speed Bullet Train" will be more about accelerating and braking than speeding. Not exactly an energy conserving concept.
There aren't THAT many stops. Energy conservation will hinge on ridership more than the number of stops.

Doesn't matter if you accelerate and brake just once during a nonstop trip from SF to LA, if there are only a handful of people riding the train.
