Its very speculative to say that the earnings will be great/bad. What did people know about WDC, ORCL or Cabletron ? Someone may know from an insider but the majority is always in the dark and that tends to magnify the present sentiment that if things are rosy they will get rosier and if things are rocky they will get rockier. Not a very sound investment fundamental but then how many are "investors" out there ? Most of the money managers and big boys are pure momentum players for the last two years. When the real test came up to test their investing power, 3/4ths in my opinion failed and began day or week trading. Why else are the large caps (except high tech ones) back to pre-crash highs ? Does it mean in Asia, where the dollar is stronger than ever, Coke and Gillete will grow further to justify 40+ PE ?? On the other hand the "investors" are very convinced that PC and network sales will crawl in the world and are hence assigning bare bottom PEs in the teens to CPQ, INTC, COMS etc. Oh well ... -hitesh
