Trading between nations

No such. Trading is between individuals and their agents. It is self-regulating. If the buying party squanders all their dough, they'd best hustle and earn more to resume. The proper function of government is to provide the best possible circumstances to goose the hustle, certainly not impede it as the US has been increasingly doing.

Governmentally imposed distortions detract from the mutual advantage inherent in free trade. And if nincompoops in power elsewhere want to sell me their serfs produce cheap cheap cheap I should kvetch?

There are arguments favoring assistance for workers displaced by more efficient producers. To work they have to be miserly and of limited duration or the burden on productivity expands and extends unto forever.

Politicians don't swing that way.

Nations previously mired in poverty are picking up tricks from the superior culture commonly called capitalistic. There are interim leveling effects, some painful. Adhering to the Bo Peep principle best guarantees a satisfactory resolution over time.

Probably won't happen. Too many of those with the capacity won't grasp the importance of investigating arguments contrary to their intuitions.
