Here is a SeekingAlpha opinion that sees things similarly to what I'm seeing with Polaris:

Basically says AMD is chasing price competition as the only competitive metric it has.

IMHO, this is a very big gamble for AMD. They have only survived as well as they have over the last several years by NOT starting price wars, with either Nvidia or Intel. Now they seem to have jumped head first into one with Nvidia, while simultaneously killing off their own shipping Radeon lineup. Does this also mean that late this year they will start a PC price war with Intel, because Zen will not quite match the i7's so they will chase i7 sockets using a half off sale? The same will likely go for servers in '17. Buy our nearly competitive parts for half the price of Intels!

Intel at least gets 6 months to observe AMD's strategy vs Nvidia, so they can decide on a course of action when Zen arrives.
