I guess a number of we folks have to watch very carefully how we spend our limited funds: < I guess a number of you folks want to be stuck in the past subservient to some very rich folks who want to exploit the world and don't care about the consequences.> There is no conspiracy to exploit the world. It's just business doing what it can to earn Big Bucks. I was a downstream oil man. A friend was an upstream exploration and production man. Swarms of other people make cars which depend on the oil products. Anyone can join in and compete [government depredations do provide a significant barrier to entry but that's life in the kleptocratic suffocatocracy]. And they do. If you think the car and oil industries are not competitive, step right up and put your money where your mouth is. Your excellent connections should get you an inside track.

Anyone can make cars; electric, petrol, diesel, CNG, LPG, fusion powered [on board deuterium/tritium reactors], coal with on-board CO2 liquefaction,, wind-powered, whatever. Anyone can produce oil. In fact I have a local place which would be perfect to do a wild-cat well based on my theory on how oil is formed via plate tectonics.

Don't you see that your Tesla buying proves that your theory is wrong that there's a rich-man's exploitative conspiracy to exploit the world? Come to think of it, you and Elon look a bit like the "rich men" exploiting the political system to get subsidies and a free ride. Not to mention Solyndra and all sorts.
