Joe, >>>I don't think neither Windows 98 not NT 5.0 will require more horsepower than current OSs. Today's mainstream PCs (P-MMX 233) can deliver the performance easily. Do you see any killer app for the masses that would need faster CPU?<<<

I don't know how long you have been working with computers, but I've been around computers since IBM 360/370 BOS, DOS, OS, MVS, VSE; IBM 8100, 43XX, 30XX; NCR 8100, HP 3000, PDP8, WANG 2200/MVS, IBM SYSTEM 1, 3, 34, 36, 38, AS400; AMDAHL, Fujitsu, Cray - IBM PC, the 286, 386, 486, pentium and others that I have long since forgotten (i.e Univac, Iliac GGG, et al).

At each inflection point - there was always someone asking - who would need a faster CPU? So this time you may think its different - we have finally arrived at a time when we have no need for a faster CPU.

I don't think so. I have been around since nearly the beginning of this stuff and I don't think we are anywhere near the end of where this stuff is going.

Mary
