Japan's Chipmakers Seen Cutting Capital Spending

The Japanese business daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun said the makers are considering shrinking capital spending partly due to the sluggish semiconductor market. They're also using more efficient facilities and expanding cooperation with foreign makers. Their spending benefits other sectors of the Japanese economy, and the planned cuts may adversely affect Japanese industry, the paper said without elaborating.
