You know a non-vote for Trump equals a vote for Hillary. If that's true, logically then a non-vote for Hillary equals a vote for Trump.

This is mathematically incorrect when you consider the population cross section. Roughly 35% of the voting population identify as either "liberal" / Democrats and roughly 35% identify as "conservative"/ Republican. (This is approximate and not the point)

Of a smaller sample size of say 20 people that 10 are democrats, 10 are republican, a vote of Hillary vs. Donald should yield a tie. Your logic while sounding correct is not. An abstained vote for Trump in protest no longer yields a tie. It is in fact a (non-)vote that gives the nod to Hillary.
