With a substantial portion of the market place being HFT, it's no wonder that we get runs up and down that nail very heavy support/.resistance areas then turn, rinse, repeat.

One of the strategies that's been working is to be out of the market until your vehicle of choice runs into these and starts to turn. Looking a VXX/XIV are a perfect example of this, IMO. In the past, VXX has split when it spends a bit of time below 13. We ran straight into that area and then exploded upward. Not a coincidence.
