However, BootRec has some other tricks up it's sleeves. You can also fix a corrupt MBR. . .

P.S. Of course, you'll need to get the system running before you can use BootRec. The easiest way of doing this is to boot it from a Windows installation DVD, but first, you need to get a Windows DVD. Try this tool. . .

Once you have a Windows DVD, boot your system with it. It will take you through the steps to install Windows, but DON'T INSTALL WINDOWS!
What you wan to do is go through the first few steps where you select language and country. When the big "Install now" button appears in the centre of your screen, press Shift+F10 and a Command Prompt Window will open.
It's in this Command Prompt Window where you'll enter the BootRec commands.
Another approach. . .
When the "Install now" screen appears, you could select "Repair your computer" and let the automated utility do the work. (But if there's more than one thing wrong, you'll need to run "Repair your computer" once for each problem.) |
