Compare knife homicide rates. Despite the presence of many guns in the US (which would tend to decrease knife homicide because 1 - Would be killers can use a gun instead. 2 - Would be victims can defend themselves with a gun, and 3 - Would be killers recognize #2 and don't want to bring a knife to a gunfight) they are also much higher then in western European countries, and Canada and Australia (the counties the US is compared to in the chart at your link). Americans just seem more prone to kill each other gun or no gun.

Looking at the world as a whole, Europe as a whole, or the US as a whole (comparing different states), there is no trend towards more murders in places with more guns.

Taking all those facts in to consideration would seem to indicate that the factor that makes Americans more prone to murder then those in the countries selected for inclusion in that chart it isn't "easier access to guns."
