Sure, if you can borrow a Windows DVD, there's no need to download and/or burn your own. But. . .

Be sure the version of Windows DVD you use is newer (or equivalent) to the system you're working on. Fortunately, Microsoft is making the very latest Windows DVDs available for people to try Windows 10. These DVDs contain the necessary repair utilities and will do the trick for systems as old as Vista.

P.S. I'm speculating here, but I think the newer DVDs would probably resurrect Windows XP system too, but in doing this, they'd replace the XP boot files with those used by current systems. This is a mess you'll likely want to avoid. (But it's better than a system that won't boot at all.)
