If you think its a very thin line...you've never seen a fully automatic weapon in action....
In the context of mass shootings, I really don't see that much of a difference. The rate of fire from a semi-automatic weapon is already frighteningly high, and anyone with "Call of Duty" experience on the Playstation can make it happen.

As for the 2nd amendment, I stand by my assertion that it guarantees a citizen a right to self-defense. It doesn't guarantee that said citizen is allowed to buy any weapon out there, for as Bill O'RLY pointed out, you're not allowed to arm yourself with a tank or an F-16 fighter.
