Stephen and all - Here is the news on the Intel price cuts that Maria B reported on. Please note that Intel did not say computer sales were bad ---- it says the cuts are to spur on sales for the next quarter which are historically soft after the big Xmas season. Lets not let misinformation be a means of panic thinking here.
"" SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 30 (Reuters) - Intel Corp said that it cut the price of its entry-level Pentium II processor, to help rejuvenate interest in personal computer sales, now that the holiday shopping season is over. Intel said that it cut the price of its entry-level 233megahertz Pentium II to $268 per processor, from $401previously, when purchased in quantities of 1,000. "It's happening now so it can start with the first quarter," an Intel spokesman said. "Typically, PC makers get strong sales over the holidays, then after the first of the year, you don't get as many sales." "We are trying to rejuvenate interest now rather than later in the quarter," the spokesman said. Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel said that its next round of price cuts on will come in early February. This price cut went into effect on Sunday for computer manufacturers. "" |
