It will happen. Look at what happened with computers. During the 1970s the early personal computer movement was all about putting computer power into the hands of the people. While it didn't exactly turn out as they wanted, it did happen and it has been revolutionary. What happened with IBM is instructive. They went from being the Big Blue Monolith in complete control of computers to just another player. No one fears them any more.
