Playstocks, Gold Stocks Short Barometer - Markets have evolved over the years. Many rule changes have benefited the short side of the market for equities ( no downtick rule, short exemption for MMs especially with all the short ETFs). In the Gold sector I noticed a huge increase in short positions several years ago, especially when you consider the low market cap of these Gold stocks compared to the short position. I believe it is very important to follow the short side of the market. It has really helped me with timing of market trends and their changes, like tops and bottoms.

I decided to make my data base public via a chart I call the Gold Stock Short Barometer. It is the only source on the internet that provides a total of the U.S. and Canadian short positions on 20 of the Top Gold stocks.

For the reporting period June 1st the total was 344.4 million, little change from mid May at 344.6M playstocks.net
