So much has changed since then.

Long was dangerously close to running Louisiana like a fascist. He had been a salesman and that is, after all, what politics is about. And I think that may be a point of similarity.

There was a time when I showed little respect for salesmen but not now. It is an important talent that some people in society. But I've never really cone to a conclusion about long. He had this folksy style that seemed totally put on, but sometimes he put it all on the line. I was never sure whether the country was better off as a result of his assassination, though.

I think Trump knows the country needs some very nasty medicine but it is hard to say it during a campaign and win.
