I think the phrase "all over the board" would fit. We all go about it differently, but if this board was politics, I'm pretty sure I would fit on the far left. I've always been of the mind that mixing high yield with dividend growth was my best path. The lower the yields go on "the best" stocks, the more sure I am.
There have been some outliers like JNJ, but then there have been the PGs with two 1% raises.
Many fit the scenario that Mannie posted this morning:
General Mills (NYSE: GIS) declares $0.48/share quarterly dividend, 4.3% increase from prior dividend of $0.46. Forward yield 2.92%
3 yr. dgr avg. 10.58% 5 yr. dgr avg. 9.78%
Our recent discussion on RMDs made me realize that in the first year, one needs a 3.65% yield on their overall portfolio not to be selling something. Doesn't matter if your yield on cost is 100% on CL, at the current price, you will need an equal amount of money earning 5.09% to hit the mark. Not that their are not a few safer stocks to do that with, but some of the "regular" DG stocks that used to fit there no longer do: T, VZ, PM, MO, and a whole host of utilities.
Anyway... when I get time, I spin around Finviz. Go through a lot of symbols, mostly for nothing. The few that are interesting, I check their news, SA for articles, and then look at their last conference call or two. Sometimes I have one stock left. Most times not. SOHO came that way. Last was DHT, although I let it be known I expect a cut.
I change my mind regularly. Sold KO and bought the last 1500 SOHO @ $5.20 figuring I would do a flip and buy the KO back. Could have sold the SOHO today, pocketed $550 and bought the 120 KO back $1.30 cheaper than I sold. Man, I am worse than my wife.
I'd like more TIS, but wait for a lower price, which is exactly why I don't own more now.
I looked toward AMNF today @ $2.16, but for a guy that was going to build some cash, I only have $700. That should double tomorrow.
Recently bought some CCP @ 25.25 in a friends account. They will have a year public under their belt in a few months, and then we will see how their comps go.
I recently bought back into LTS-A. I added CBL-D and AHT-D in my brother in laws account.
I wouldn't recommend anything, but these are my preferred buys since Jan. 1.
  06/08/2016 11:48:15 Bought 100 CBL PRD @ 24.7685 -2,484.85 06/08/2016 11:46:34 Bought 200 LTS PRA @ 24.3444 -4,876.88 06/08/2016 11:45:38 Bought 200 NRF PRB @ 24.5412 -4,916.24 05/03/2016 11:56:07 Bought 100 DLNG PRA @ 21.89 -2,197.00 04/20/2016 10:01:25 Bought 150 BRG PRA @ 24.9053 -3,743.80
I am looking at AHT-D or maybe AHT common for myself. Did you take a look at PBB? I may look at it again when I have some cash.
Or maybe I will build some cash.
