$wheat, I have my doubts about IBM. Here they are in nutshell. Ibm missmanaged Intel when they owned 60% of Intel. In fact it was Ibm who forced Intel to give crosslisensing to Intel technology to AMd. for second source reasons. Intel had already started overcharging IBM for chips. were Ibm to bid for intel would bring all that past missmanagment stuff up agian. After all IBM not only had 60% of intel they were offered a majority in microsoft by Gates himself. The dicssion to divest Intel and not take a position in Microsoft almost cost the company it's life. enter gersten Also Ibm would have the unsetteling delima of conveincing other boxmakers to buy from their direct competitor. IMB would have to give up making PC or would have to decide to use all the AMd Ibm production for itself. so you see no Ibm bid is forth commming. Aslo IMB has been sloser to amd than any onter chip makers for the last several years, If they thought it would fit Gersten would have jumped on it just after the next gen merger.... one big fish swallowing(IBM) another fish(AMD) swallowing another(nextgen). I think IBM is happy to have that AMd dog droawning for them and only having to throw amd a technology bone their think tank comes up with on occasion. I could be wrong. Go ask Brian Hutch he thinks it's IMB/AMd is a good fit! I have my doubts. Of course my senoir notes would double in value overnight with an IMB bond rating so I won't vote to block a sale!
