In countries that do not understand politics/democracy, the children cry and too often live lives of fear, starvation and abuse.
In countries that do understand politics/democracy, the children laugh more and generally have much better lives.
This is a good reason why people should study politics. Before we had sophisticated political systems revolving around republics the world was a gruesome place to live in. If one studies their history, no matter where they look, or the time they look at, they will see tremendous civil rights abuses that we take for granted today. And this is without exception until we formed strong democracies.
For all of civilization going back 12,000 years, you can find no place on earth, nor at any time when there was not pervasive civil rights abuses that we would never stand for today. Especially the abuse of women, but the abuse of everyone at the hands of tribal chiefs, dictators, tyrants and kings and queens, was total until we effected democracy. People were ruled by ignorant barbarians most of the time.
Politics is not something we can understand without making an effort. Understanding democracy and the political foundation it stands on is a very sophisticated endeavor that too few people take seriously. We act like discussing it is some egregious form of behavior, when it is exactly the opposite. The better the people understand democracy the better lives the children have.
History is very clear about this. |
