Yes it was scathing. He is a Republican. Not only that, he is a politician. He very well knows that his future in the Republican party depended on finding dirt. Which he couldn't deliver. Like so many "investigations" launched by the Republicans or on their behalf, a lot of time, effort and money was spent on bupkiss. Look at Issa. He spent a lot of time, effort and money on a couple of investigations into the Obama administration and found nothing. He tried really hard to make his nothing look like something, but he couldn't. So now instead of a rising star in the Republican party like he used to be, his career is roadkill. He will never head anything high profile for the Republican party. He had one job, to do whatever "investigations" he wanted as long as he nailed Obama. For anything. And he failed.

And Comey knows that. So he took the extremely unusual action of publicly dissing Hillary. Probably unethically, too. But he had to do something because his career is on the line.

So yeah. The American people will probably forget about this pretty quickly. Like they tend to do when a tempest in a teapot leads to nothing. Y'all have spent how many hundreds of millions of dollars in your various "investigations" that lead nowhere? Granted, the real goal was to distract the American people from your other malfeasance, but why you expect people to take you serious because y'all have decided to throw more money down the toilet because of stuff that even the National Enquirer wouldn't print because it is too far out there is something I can't understand. In many cases "Bat Boy" is more believable than the things y'all decide deserves an "investigation"/witch hunt.
