I mentioned testing because I'm sure there must be ways to test it formally, using data over a long period of time. I just wouldn't know where to begin. Old dog new trucks kind of a thing. Or maybe just lazy. Or maybe the two are the same... -g. But, I'll give it some more thought.

Spreads, I think, should come into play if this becomes a "regular", recurrent trade, using index or SPY options. If the batting average is good, it's worth paying for insurance, to eliminate worries about big and unexpected events.
