The standard barrel is 16". Even if I didn't know this, why would that ad make a special effort to point out that it has one that is 20"?

That's just it - you don't know.

Standard AR15 is 20", but most buyers are looking for the 16" M4 carbine (copy) today, not the "standard rifle".
Just like 20/30 round magazines are also standard issue capacities - not high capacity.
