'capital is seeking any positive return'

To a fault, I would say. I think a lot of people have been whip-lashed over the past 2 years, causing portfolio movements at the worst possible times. Patience can be rewarding but too many overreact at the wrong time. A lot of gold and silver was sold at the end of last year, as only one example.

Here's another:
My folks took 1/4 of their stock portfolio out of the market in February, going against my advice. Even though they've since acknowledged that they made a mistake and that they should have listened, it's no consolation for me. Selling an AMZN stake under $500/share. What could have been an 80% gain today was sold off for a 20% profit. I understand but what can you do?

As to the highs in the US markets being rejected, I don't expect that to be the case in the short run. Maybe down the road a bit....?
