I worked exclusively through the Windows Backup & Recovery menu, clicked on Make System Image (or something like that) in the left margin. It took 3 or 4 hours to complete.

Then went back and just clicked on the Backup button.

I'm not sure I lost anything, at least in the Imaging process.

In the past, I've been able to get into the backed-up files with IE and open them, actually see every file and open or move it. Cannot open these xml files and don't see any backup files.
