Bombardier (BBD.B-T) almost eight years to the day after Bombardier launched the CSeries program, the aircraft carried its first paying passengers on its maiden commercial flight from Zurich to Paris. The first CS100 aircraft was handed over to launch customer Swiss International late last month, 2-1/2 years after the aircraft was originally supposed to be delivered, and flew its inaugural flight Friday.

"We salute Swiss on the CS100 aircraft's successful entry-into-service and thank the airline for its outstanding support to the CSeries aircraft program," Fred Cromer, president of Bombardier Commercial Aircraft, said in a statement.

The larger CS300 received type certification from Transport Canada on Monday and is expected to be delivered to its launch customer, Air Baltic Corp., in the fourth quarter.

The CS100's first flight came at the end of the Farnborough International Airshow, the industry's most important trade event of the year. Bombardier announced no new CSeries orders at the show but did secure three Q400 turboprop orders each from Porter Airlines and All Nippon Airways.
