Reagan 1976 and Cruz 2016 did exactly the same thing. Reagan didn't endorse Ford, he endorsed the platform, didn't campaign for Ford and make no appearances on his behalf. It was Ford that was smart enough to back off. Trump is not smart or he doesn't want to win. Take your pick. Cruz congratulated him for winning the nomination, said not a single bad word about him, and told people to vote in November. The sole "anti-Trump" consisted of saying people should vote their conscience. Only people with a bad conscience about voting Trump could object to that. But Trump isn't a smart man or he doesn't want to win against Hillary. Take your pick. Trump has admitted he doesn't like attacking Hillary. He's done it a few times cause he has to but he's never attacked the Democratic party as a whole. Even the Crooked Hillary phrase isn't much of an insult coming from Trump. Trump used to support Hillary BECAUSE she was crooked.
